Another Victory in Norway
Last Sunday I raced a Norwegian triathlon cup race in Bergen. The bike course was undulating and my plan was to go hard on the bike to secure a win. My warm up was driving 550km and then cleaning out my girlfriend’s old apartment in the 30 degree Celsius heat. So I felt pretty tired and a bit dehydrated before the start… The race started and right away I lost Tom Remman’s legs. I didn’t panic and kept my own rhythm till halfway, where I upped the pace and caught a bit of the lost time. Out of the water I was about 15sec behind and after a quick transition I was ahead out on the bike. I struggled a bit with getting my shoes on, and so Tom caught up with me again. I road steadily and my plan was to break away after about 6km in a long hill. Right before that hill Tom went by me and got a few meters, but when we got to the hill, I put the hammer down and he lost seconds right away! I kept going hard to get a good gap, and also because Even Olsen had caught a fear bit from behind. Into second transition I thought I had a bit more than a minute and so I went through the second transition pretty easy, thinking I had enough time. However, it turned out that Even was only 45sec back into T2. I pushed hard, but controlled, out to the turnaround. Then I saw Even only about 20sec behind me and I started pushing a lot harder to try and keep the distance. Even though I felt pretty heavy and dehydrated I kept the distance and won the race with about 10sec! Last I would like to thank my family and girlfriend for the support during the race, Oslo Sportslager for supporting me with all my equipment (Polar watch, Everst bikes, Giro helmets, Fast Forward wheels, Orca triathlon suit and wetsuit, x-socks, Oakley sun glasses and Craft clothing), Ostmarka IL, M&M Tomrerservice, Laerdal Trevare and Laerdal Sport og Rekreasjon for financial support, CanWi for coaching and Honey Stinger for support with energy bars, gels and fruit smoothies! |
